For an established business, the next productivity improvement may sit between the systems it already owns. Work slows when people search for instructions, re-enter information or wait for someone to explain an exception. Those delays are less visible than a new machine, but they can shape the performance of the whole operation.

On 9 September 2026, Harmoni announced a US$10 million Series A funding round led by Bessemer Venture Partners and introduced HAL, its manufacturing AI technology. The company describes HAL as using operational context such as the active job, machine, production records and engineering information to support people at the point of work. Why this is a strategy story

CREDIUM's interpretation is that modernisation deserves to be assessed at the level of the work. A leadership team deciding where to invest should ask which constraint prevents a good result today and whether better information, coordination or equipment would address it.

Replacing a functioning system can introduce migration effort and new dependencies. Connecting the existing process also has costs and limitations. The choice becomes clearer when the business can describe the bottleneck, rather than begin with a preference for a particular technology.

Find where the work loses context

Follow one job from request to completion. At each handoff, ask what the next person needs to know and where that information comes from. Look for situations in which the employee has the right tool but lacks the current instruction, approval or explanation needed to proceed.

For equipment-related decisions, the organisation's responsible technical and safety personnel should determine which instructions and actions are permitted. A useful information assistant does not itself establish permission to change a physical process.

Imagine a fictional manufacturer whose incoming shift spends time reconstructing what happened overnight. Updates sit in several places, and employees need to ask colleagues which issues remain open.

A bounded trial could assemble a draft handoff from approved records: work completed, unresolved exceptions and the owner of each next step. A supervisor would check the draft against the underlying records before it becomes the accepted handoff. Conflicting information would be shown explicitly rather than blended into a confident summary.

Judge the complete operational result

Measure accepted output and downstream effects. A quicker handoff is useful if the next person can act correctly. A faster information search is useful if it returns the relevant, current material. More alerts are valuable only when someone can distinguish what needs action.
